Touch Analytics in RoveIQ shows how visitors are interacting with your kiosks: which apps they use, what they search for, when they are most active, and how they use features such as routing and the selfie experience. This data is collected directly from the RoveIQ Software Application running on your kiosks and logs each touch on the screen.
Touch Analytics is available for kiosks running the RoveIQ Software Application and connected to the RoveIQ Portal. If you do not see any data, make sure the kiosk is online and that you have selected the correct venue and date range.
Accessing Touch Analytics
- From the left-hand navigation, click Dashboard.
- At the top of the dashboard, click the Content tab.
- Use the venue and filter dropdowns at the top of the page to choose which location or group of screens you want to analyze.
- Use the date range picker in the upper-right corner to select the time period you’d like to view.
- (Optional) Click Save as PDF to export a snapshot of the current Touch Analytics dashboard.
Understanding the Summary Metrics
At the top of the Content dashboard you’ll see six large summary tiles. These provide a quick overview of how people are using your kiosks over the selected date range.
- Total User Sessions
The total number of interaction sessions on your kiosks. A session begins when a user starts interacting with the screen and ends after a period of inactivity or when the session times out. - Total Users Routed
The number of sessions where a user requested directions or a route from the kiosk (for example, tapping “Get Directions” to a store or location). This helps you understand how often guests use wayfinding features. - Total Interactions
The combined count of key actions taken on the kiosk—such as taps, searches, route requests, app launches, and other tracked touches—during the selected date range. - Total Selfies Taken
The total number of photos captured using the kiosk’s selfie or photo experience. Each time a user takes a selfie on the kiosk, it increases this count. - Total Selfies Sent
The total number of selfies that were successfully sent or shared from the kiosk (for example, via SMS, email, or another supported method). - QR Codes Scanned
The number of QR code scans triggered from the kiosk. This often occurs when a user scans a QR code to send directions, content, or a link to their mobile device.
These metrics are designed to give you a high-level view of overall kiosk engagement. For deeper analysis, you can use the charts lower on the page or build targeted reports using the Interactions report.
Understanding the Charts
Below the summary tiles, the Touch Analytics dashboard contains several charts and tables that break down engagement by app, location, time, and search behavior. While exact charts can vary by configuration, the most common views include:
Top Apps
The Top Apps charts (bar and pie) show which RoveIQ apps or content sections are used most often, such as:
- Directory / Tenants
- Dining / Food & Beverage
- Events
- Offers / Deals
- Maps or Wayfinding
The bar chart shows the total number of sessions per app, while the pie chart shows the same information as a percentage of overall usage.
Top Locations / Rental Locations
This bar chart highlights the locations or tenants most frequently selected from the kiosks (for example, “Guest Services,” “Brand X Store,” or “Food Court”). Each bar represents how many times that destination was tapped or routed to from the kiosk.
Use this to understand which tenants or locations are most in demand and how signage is driving discovery.
Top Searches
The Top Searches bar chart lists the most commonly searched terms entered into the kiosk search bar. Examples may include store names, categories (“shoes,” “coffee”), or amenities (“restroom,” “parking”).
This chart is useful for identifying what visitors are most frequently trying to find—and where you may want to feature or promote content more prominently.
Sessions by Hour (EST)
There are typically two views for sessions by hour:
- A multi-line chart showing sessions by hour of the day, broken down by app or category.
- A bar chart showing the total number of sessions during each hour (0–23) in Eastern Standard Time (EST).
These charts help you understand what times of day kiosks are used most heavily, which can guide scheduling of key messages or campaigns.
Sessions by Day of Week
The Sessions by Day of Week bar and pie charts show how usage is distributed across Monday–Sunday. This helps identify which days are busiest and how weekday vs. weekend behaviors differ.
App Sessions by Date
This chart shows how sessions trend over the individual dates within your selected time range. Each bar typically represents one day and shows the number of kiosk sessions that occurred on that date.
Use this to spot trends over time, such as increases during holidays, sales events, or marketing campaigns.
App Interaction Details (Table)
At the bottom of the dashboard you may see a table summarizing interactions by app. Common columns include:
- App Name – The name of the kiosk app or section.
- Sessions – How many times that app was opened.
- Interactions – Total touches or actions taken within that app.
- Searches – Number of searches performed inside that app (if applicable).
This table gives you a detailed breakdown you can compare across apps and use when reporting or making content decisions.
Pulling Targeted Touch Analytics Reports
In addition to viewing high-level Touch Analytics in the Dashboard, you can also generate targeted, detailed interaction reports using the Reports → Interactions section of the RoveIQ Portal. These reports allow you to filter by specific actions, buttons, categories, or app elements to understand user behavior at a deeper level.
Below is a walkthrough on how to access and filter Interactions data:
- Log in to the RoveIQ Portal
- Go to your organization’s RoveIQ login page and sign in with your credentials.
- Navigate to Reports → Interactions
- In the left-hand navigation menu, click Reports, then select Interactions.
- View the Default Data Set
- The Interactions page automatically displays the most interacted components over the last 7 days.
- You can change the date range at any time using the date selector in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- Filter the Interactions
- Click the Filters button to open the filtering panel.
- A window titled Filter Interactions will appear, allowing you to add detailed filtering rules.
- Set Your Filter Criteria
- Under Filter Columns, select the type of information you want to filter by:
- Category — Filter by general interaction type (e.g., Navigation, Button Press, Search).
- Action — Filter by the user action (e.g., Click, Tap, Swipe).
- Name — Filter by the specific component or element name (e.g., “Search Bar”, “Dining Button”).
- Choose an Operator to define how the filter matches data:
- equals — Only shows results that exactly match the filter text.
- does not equal — Excludes results with that exact match.
- contains — Shows results that include the filter text anywhere.
- does not contain — Excludes results that include the filter text.
- Enter the keyword or phrase under Filter By to define what the system should look for.
- Under Filter Columns, select the type of information you want to filter by:
- Apply and View Filtered Data
- After setting your filters, click Apply.
- Click Close to return to the main Interactions view.
- The data will update automatically based on your filter selections.
Tip: You can stack multiple filters (for example, “Category: Navigation” + “Name contains: Search”) to build highly targeted reports. This is especially useful when analyzing user search patterns, app engagement, or interaction funnels across one or more kiosks.
